Quick Overview

Public art and its architecture evolved from shamanism and magic through the ritual of religion to its final expression as a political tool. From the primitive cave art of the shaman, to the magicoreligious use of art in the megalithic temple and stone-circle, art required its own architecture for the worship of the prevailing deity or deities.

Over the aeons, powerful symbols have been used, and their sacred meanings passed on from one generation of wise ones to the next. What are these symbols? How do they function? Are there universal symbols with meaning to all generations back into the darkest reaches of time? These subjects are explored in this book, and when academic sources failed to explain some of the mysteries, the writings of esoteric authors are considered.

These questions are discussed and finally, the question is raised whether knowledge of the meaning of symbols may have application to the creative process and to the art and architecture of today.

Details

This work springs from the author's fascination with the esoteric and scientific aspects of art, architecture and landscape.

These subjects are explored in this book, and when academic sources failed to explain some of the mysteries, the writings of esoteric authors are considered. Beginning in the far distant past, a search for human art and artefacts begins the journey. Progressing through time, the motivations for cyclopaean architecture and its accompanying art and landscape enclosures are sought.

On the way, the possibilities are considered that the architecture and art of great civilisations evolved, and was subsequently lost. Also the probability is discussed that some races may have been of gigantic stature in scale with the megalithic architecture they constructed. Over the aeons, powerful symbols have been used, and their sacred meanings passed on from one generation of wise ones to the next.

What are these symbols? How do they function? Are there universal symbols with meaning to all generations back into the darkest reaches of time?

These questions are discussed and finally, the question is raised whether knowledge of the meaning of symbols may have application to the creative process and to the art and architecture of today.

I trust the reader will enjoy this journey through time and its accompanying search for answers to some of the mysteries presented.
